Nvidia took advantage of the opening speech at GTC 2022 to unveil the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080. We now know the prices in France for reference graphics cards.
Nvidia’s big GeForce Beyond conference was the scene of several announcements. We especially remember the presentation of the new Ada Lovelace architecture on which the latest graphics cards from the green giant, the GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080, are based.
With the GeForce RTX 4090 and two variants of the RTX 4080, Nvidia presented the first graphics cards of the Ada Lovelace generation. And, while we haven’t tested these new cards yet, Nvidia’s information alone is impressive and points to massive increases in performance over the previous generation Ampere.
As expected, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang gave some impressive numbers in the GTC conference keynote. First up is the new AD102 GPU, which uses TSMC’s new 4N process and consists of 76 billion transistors. The predecessor, AD102, of the Ampere generation didn’t even have half of it.
This leads to a massive increase in performance. RTX-enabled games with Ada Lovelace reportedly run up to twice as fast as on the current generation GeForce RTX 3000.
In ray tracing, Nvidia even mentions performance up to four times greater. At the same time, energy efficiency should also be twice as high. Exact numbers have not been released, but a graph shows 450 watts, which could be the consumption of the GeForce RTX 4090.
The other great novelty is the arrival of DLSS 3. Presented by Nvidia as ” the next revolution in the company’s Deep Learning Super Sampling neural graphics technology for games.
Prices in France
Nvidia will therefore market three graphics cards. The flagship will be the GeForce RTX 4090, it will cost $1,599 before tax in the US, and 1,949 euros including tax in France. With one available from October 12. Obviously, custom graphics cards from partners should charge an even higher price.
The GeForce RTX 4080 will be available in two different variants, one with 16 GB of VRAM (GDDR6X) and one with 12 GB. The 16 GB version is announced at $1,199 excluding VAT, 1,469 euros including tax in Francewhile the 12GB model is $899, and 1,099 euros including tax in France. As for the RTX 4090, these are the reference prices, each partner can set the price of its products as it sees fit.
A price increase linked to the euro-dollar parity
As expected, Nvidia increased the price of its graphics cards. However, the increase is the same in the United States and Europe, unlike Apple’s latest iPhones. Nvidia has applied the euro-dollar parity, to which local taxes are added. As a reminder, the euro-dollar parity means that, for one euro, you can only buy one dollar. And, it’s a first since 2002.
The rise in tech prices is causing a lot of ink to flow. The economic situation is catching up with us and we will have to review our price list.
